Full-service or labor-only — priced differently
Flooring quotes get compared side by side more than almost any other renovation cost, which is exactly where they stop being apples to apples. One number can mean material and labor start to finish. Another can mean labor only, because the flooring's already sitting in your garage. SMR does both, and we tell you on the visit which one you're getting a price for.

Full-service means SMR sources the material, handles demo of what's down now, and installs — one scope, one estimate. Labor-only means the material is already yours; what we're pricing is the install itself, any demo, and whatever the subfloor needs once the old flooring's out. That's not a small difference — it changes the number and what's covered under it.
Subfloor condition is one thing neither of us can fully see until the old flooring comes up. That's part of why the in-person visit happens before either kind of estimate gets written — for hardwood and tile especially, what's underneath matters as much as what's on top.
Flooring questions we get asked
I already bought my flooring — can you just install it?
Yes. Labor-only is a normal part of what we quote, and it's scoped and priced separately from full-service work. Have the material specs (type, thickness, square footage) ready for the visit so we can price the install accurately.
What if you pull up the old floor and the subfloor's bad underneath?
It happens. Demo is part of how we get an actual look at what's underneath — if there's repair work beyond the original scope, we'll walk you through it in person before continuing, not after the fact.
Do you only install new flooring, or do you refinish existing hardwood too?
Both. Refinishing is a separate scope from a new install — if your existing hardwood is original and in decent shape underneath, refinishing is often the more direct option, and it's something we can evaluate on the same visit.
